Alice Walker, a poet, activist and wife, is one with many voices of writing and mindset. Her purpose is to showcase the power of word on page, to articulate the notions of therapy and society. She preaches her notion of not succumbing to tyrannical bias, which in turn, moves the conversation to womanism and blackness. Using her poems she escaped the reality of her life healing her eye, family and psyche with complex perspectives we use today. Her words in, “You confide in me” can give an audience the audacity to laugh while speaking on how one loves a “childish” couch potato. With these stories, she cultivates the cast of characters to agree with other poets like Zora Hurston and Maya Angelo. With the help of my mentor Oluwatomi, our goals will cross into helping those express themselves about gender and health issues in their native country, Nigeria.
